Introduction:

Danny Zack recognizes the toll that divorce can take, and focuses his practice on helping clients emerge from this period in their lives both emotionally and financially intact. Danny takes a collaborative approach to family problems, with the goal of obtaining an efficient, durable resolution through negotiation and consensus building, rather than litigation, whenever possible. Adept at handling complicated family dynamics, Danny is also skilled in resolving high net worth divorces and understanding complex financial and tax issues.

Danny works particularly well with clients who are able to engage in problem-solving and remain respectful. Placing the needs of clients and especially children first, Danny helps clients manage their anger, feelings of betrayal, and lost expectations. He provides them with an objective assessment of their case, and advises them on strategies to keep negotiations moving. All of his efforts are directed at giving the couple the best chance of reaching agreement, restructuring their lives in a positive way, and minimizing further trauma.

Danny graduated from U.B.C. Law School in 1972 and was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1973. He has practiced in Richmond for 40 years and is a founding partner in the firm of Kahn Zack Ehrlich Lithwick LLP.

Specializing in family law throughout his career, Danny has also represented the Ministry of Children and Family Development, doing child protection work since 1975. In addition, he acted as Child Advocate, representing children who were the subjects of their parents' matrimonial disputes in the 1970s.

Beyond the practice of law, Danny has been a director of various local organizations. He has served as an officer and director of a national sports organization with which he has been involved for more than 40 years, and is presently an honorary vice-president.

Danny was the Co-Chair of Collaborative Divorce Vancouver from 2008 to 2010 and was a presenter at the 9th annual meeting of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2008 and at the 10th annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2009.

In 2009, Danny participated in the groundbreaking CBC national documentary “How to Divorce & Not Wreck the Kids.” Danny is seen on camera guiding his client through the collaborative divorce process. On December 4, 2012, Danny gave a presentation to the BC Supreme Court Judges in Vancouver regarding Collaborative Practice and the Family Law Act . He submitted a paper in advance, which he entitled “Collaborative Practice: From One Person's Vision to Worldwide Change”.

Danny also appears in an article entitled "Mutual respect the goal of collaborative divorce", in the May 30, 2014 edition of The Vancouver Courier.
